Understanding Hair Types: A Quick Guide for DadsÂ

Why Hair Type Matters
Â
When youâre learning to do your daughterâs hair, the first step isnât the braid - itâs knowing what kind of hair youâre working with. Different textures need different care. Understanding this will make braiding easier, more fun, and way less frustrating for both of you.
A quick personal note: Dad Braids started with me learning on my daughterâs hair - sheâs Type 1 (straight). So far, thatâs the only hair type Iâve worked with directly. But over time, Iâve heard from lots of dads asking for tips on curly and coily hair. I may not have hands-on experience with those textures yet, but Iâve done the research and pulled together resources and creators who are experts. That way, no matter what hair type your daughter has, youâve got a starting point and support.
